POTS
Just like people, they come in all shapes and sizes and colors.
And while houseplants are the bread and butter that make where we live so beautiful and bright and joyful, let’s not forget that they also need homes of their own too!
To remember this we need to slightly amend the quote from the greatest Edwardian and Jacobean jurist of his time, Sir Edward Coke.
A man’s home is his castle and a houseplant’s home is their pot!

Soil
After choosing a pot now we need (you guessed it!) soil!
If you’re completely new to gardening and houseplants you might be thinking:
“Hold on Alex, I don’t need to read about soil. It’s black and brown with some twigs mixed in. I’ll just go outside, scoop some in a bag, take it home, fill up my pot and be done with it!”
Now while I’m all for efficiency and making things as easy as possible, don’t do that.
We’ve taken care of all the dirty dirt to find the best dirt for your dirt needs. Take a look at some of specific choices for dirt and potting mixes here or look up your specific plant here and get all the answers you need.

Growing Gear
Once you’ve found the best soil for you plants, it’s time to move on to growing gear. This topic is as varied as it is specific. Every plant has different needs, different ways of growing, different problems, and some can be temperamental while others are very laid back.
Throw in trendy (and admittedly, pretty cool) growing alternatives such as hydroponics, tower gardens, grow tents, and aquaponics and your growing gear list can ‘grow’ pretty darn quick.

Fertilizer
Last but certainly not least is the almighty fertilizer. For most people, fertilizing is the hardest part to get right. Too much fertilizer can be bad, too little fertilizer can be underwhelming, and fertilizing at the wrong time and frequency can be detrimental to your plants health.
On top of all that, no plant is exactly the same. Learn more about the best types of fertilizers and the best way to apply it to your plants.
